Detroit tries to end lengthy slide in Oakland

The Tigers have invested a lot of money in starting pitchers, with the intention of finally winning the World Series, but so far it looks like the money was thrown down the drain. Not only these starting pitchers failed to dazzle their audience with their impeccable performance, but they had a hard time keeping the ship afloat. Add to this the miserable performance of most relievers and it becomes crystal clear why Detroit is mired in such a long losing streak.

They will try to end it tonight and level the score in a series that started in a catastrophic manner, with the A’s scoring 10 runs without allowing one. There will be very few opportunities for the visitors to score tonight as they will be competing against Sonny Gray who has the best earned run average of all starting pitchers with at least 8 starts this season. This young player has won all but one decision in 2014 and he kept his ERA below 2.00, so the hosts won’t need to score double digit runs to win the second match.Tigers-Athletics Preview

They are not going to have an easy time either, because the Tigers are bringing in an ace of their own and a very experienced one too. Scherzer had the best ERA of all starting pitchers last season including Verlander and he was also very reliable. Unlike some of his peers who alternate brilliant games with disheartening performances, he delivers match after match and rarely suffers a complete meltdown.

It is unfortunate that he allowed a massive seven runs in his most recent match against the Indians, a fixture that went into overtime. Cleveland needed 13 innings to emerge victorious but this is only a pale consolation for the Tigers who saw their losing streak growing. Now, Detroit needs its ace to return to his winning ways, while keeping the hope alive that the offensive players will provide him with some support

There is no reason for why punters would take a leap of faith with a team that is struggling so heavily and who just won a game to Oakland by 0-10. The A’s know how to corner Detroit and their past performance at the Coliseum is a rock-solid argument for backing them at full stakes tonight. Bookies regard them as mild favorites, but the odds are good enough to justify a wager.
